The Hive Renovation

Renovation of The Hive begins!

The renovation of the barn into our next catered ski chalet, ‘The Hive’ is in full swing. We finally received the keys on 18th April 2014 and since then there has been an awful lot of clearing to be done! Here is a picture of the barn, or The Hive as it is now called. It looks like a semi detached building but it is one building. The left hand side is the oldest built in 1886 and the right side was added at a later date. There is a ‘Mazot’ in the back garden too. More about the history of the building in a later post. Too much has happened this week to fit all the background information in!

Clearing works began straight away. Here are some pictures of how the inside of The Hive looked at the end of April:

The team of builders arrived Mid-May 2014 Here they are standing outside The Hive and enjoying a well deserved beer on their day off!:

There has been an ongoing bonfire burning old rotten wood and hay, along with numerous trips to the tip and a lot of heavy lifting and hard work. Don’t worry, a lot of the wood is being kept and will be used within the renovation, along with other great finds. Again more of this in a later post.

It has now been just over a week since the builders started, and so much has changed already!! First stage (after more clearing) was to dig foundations and build the structural wall where previously there was just a wooden wall. This involved knocking down the little out house at the front of the building. Here’s pictures of before, during and after the knocking down:

Foundations were dug…

concrete poured…

and block laid…

Looking good! Watch this space for more updates on the renovation of The Hive and also our goings on over the Summer in our current catered chalet, The Nest. Thank you for reading Pure Peakers!
