Mountain Biking

Great Biking Routes

Mountain biking is the key activity that brings people to enjoy the summer in the Port du Soleil each year. The Port du Soleil is spread over 650km of way marked trails. 24 ski lifts are open to mountain bikes and there are ten permanent downhill trails and four bike parks.

There are various places to hire a whole host of bikes here from road bikes to downhill mountain bikes as well as specialist shops with professional teams to serve and advise you. Both Les Gets and Morzine have many bars and restaurant in the villages and on the mountains perfect for ‘apre-ski’. In Les Gets, the downhill mountain bike run on Mount Chéry has been used in the Mountain Bike World Cups in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and in the Mountain Bike World Championships in 2004.

Tour De France

Morzine has hosted Tour de France stage finishes on several occasions, thanks in part to the proximity of the notoriously steep Col de Joux-Plane climb. Morzine was the finale of the first mountain stage in the 2003 Tour de France. Stage 7’s yellow and Polka dot jerseys were awarded toRichard Virenque of France’s Quick Step-Davitamon team. Stage 17 of the 2006 Tour de France ended in Morzine, and the town was the starting point for Stage 18. In the 2010 Tour de France Morzine was the finishing location for stage 8.
